My friend Ashley wrote this and I thought it was great and that you might like it to! Enjoy!!!
“We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.”
- 2 Corinthians 4:13
Hey guys,
Just thought I’d share this verse with you this morning. It’s really rocking me right now. It’s such an interesting verse if you break it down and really think about what Paul is saying. He’s speaking to believers in the faith. Paul says to the Corinthian people that it’s because of his own BELIEF in God that he has cause to speak to others about his BELIEF in God. He also says that they, too, are speaking (I assume by word and/or action) whatever it is that they truly BELIEVE.
It reminds me of that song by Chris Tomlin which says, “How can I keep from singing your praise? How can I ever say enough? How amazing is Your love! How can I keep from shouting Your name? I know I am loved by the King, and it makes my heart want to sing!”
When we think about the Person of God and His majesty, His power and His mystery…when we remember Him as Creator of all persons, all personalities, all beauty, all nature and its power, all emotions and things unseen…and when we remember that He says that we can call Him Abba (Father), Friend, Savior…that He not just ‘created’ LOVE, but that He actually IS love itself…then, how can we keep from speaking about the Person and the Character of God?! It’s impossible not to. Like a dam that bursts wide open after years of pressure build up from holding it back.
This verse has reminded me that my life is ALWAYS speaking (whether verbally, non-verbally, intentionally or unintentionally). My life is speaking to what I TRULY BELIEVE in the deepest parts of my being. So, I ask myself and you, what are our lives saying? What are our attitudes and actions REALLY speaking to the world? For me, I’ve seen that my actions have spoken to some false-beliefs in me….belief in my own strength & abilities and that those abilities were results from something I can take credit for (didn’t take long to shoot that false belief down!)…false belief in my own safety in this life, whether financially or through dependency on my family or another person’s existence…false belief that who I am is defined by the opinions of others and those in power around me…that life is ‘here & now’ and not ‘always was, is and always will be’ through Jesus Christ.
If I want my LIFE to SPEAK of BELIEF in JEHOVAH, belief in WHO He is and belief in the TRUTH that He’s revealed in Scripture, I have to start from within. Only then will the fruit of my actions be such that I can say “I believe in God and, as I believe, therefore have I spoken”.
